Holy Name High School wins again

Holy Name pulled away in the fourth quarter during its 45-31 win over Warren John F. Kennedy on Oct. 8. The Green Wave (4-3) won their third straight as they head into a home contest against Trinity on Oct. 14. JFK falls to 3-4 on the season.

Holy Name led, 27-10, before JFK rallied back with 14 unanswered points in the third quarter. The Green Wave then outscored JFK, 18-7, in the final 12 minutes of play.

Running back R.J. Frazier had four touchdowns on the night, with runs of 33, 27, 51 and 14 yards. Quarterback Jake Schaefer gave his team an early lead with a 3-yard run in the first quarter and connected with Joe Duff on a 46-yard touchdown pass at the end of the second quarter.

Schaefer opened the fourth quarter with a 24-yard field goal before Frazier added touchdown runs of 51 and 14 yards.

Trinity (1-6) is coming off a 55-6 loss to Villa Angela-St. Joseph.

Holy Name girls soccer team wipes out Rocky River

The Holy Name girls soccer team picked up another victory last week, and in doing so the Green Wave ruined what was a previously undefeated season for Rocky River.

In an Oct. 5 game, the two teams had played to a scoreless deadlock until the final minute of play. With 54 seconds left in regulation time, the Green Wave’s Peyton Davis knocked home a goal, with an assist from Caroline Dreher.

The 1-0 victory for Holy Name put the team’s season record at six wins, two losses and two ties. The team’s only loss Holy Name’s two losses came in contests with Brecksville Broadview Heights, and St. Anthony’s of New York.

In the latest poll of Ohio high school coaches, Holy Name was ranked number four among Division II girls teams, behind Walsh Jesuit, Cincinnait Indian Hill and Columbus St. Francis DeSales.
Holy Name was scheduled to end its regular season play on Oct. 12 when the Green Wave traveled to Archbishop Hoban for a 7 p.m. contest.

Rocky River now has a season mark of 13 wins, one loss and one tie. The team ended its regular season Oct. 12 with a game at Bay Village.

The host Green Wave (16-4, 10-0) won the North Coast League White Division title. Sophomore Meredith Collins had 13 kills and 15 digs, with junior Leah Switalksi adding 11 kills and senior Leah Gray contributing 15 digs.
