Conference meets were held across the region Saturday as the final week of the regular season concluded. District meets are later this week. Therese Thomasen (21:07) of Holy Name won the girls White Division, and Trinity took the team title.

Football roundup: Independence, Holy Name hope to continue winning ways

Holy Name earned its fourth straight win with a 40-0 home shutout over Trinity on Oct. 14.

The Green Wave improve to 5-3 on the season while Trinity falls to 1-7.Holy Name dominated the first half, leading, 34-0, after the first two quarters. Signal caller Jake Schaefer threw three touchdown passes on the night – two to receiver Joe Duff.The host Green Wave opened the scoring with a 17-yard run by Andre Husain. Schaefer followed it up with passes to Duff for 14 and 33 yards. Husain added a 7-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. Schaefer’s third touchdown toss was a 15-yarder to Billy Vaccariello near the end of the first half. Jovan Smiley concluded the scoring with a 21-yard run in the third quarter. 

Trinity quarterback Ryan McSweeney was 6-of-15 for 41 yards and an interception. The Holy Name defense held Trinity to 113 yards on the ground. 

Husain finished with 92 yards on seven carries and Smiley had four carries for 46 yards. Duff caught five passes for 98 yards. 

Schaefer was 11-for-14 for 200 yards and no interceptions.

Holy Name tries to stretch it to five in a row on Oct. 22 when it hosts Villa Angela-St. Joseph. The Vikings (5-3) are riding a two-game win streak following their 28-13 win at St. Peter Chanel.
