Thirty-nine students from Holy Name High School attended the 39th annual March for Life in Washington D.C. on Monday Jan. 23, 2012.  After traveling all night the students attended the 7:30 Mass at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception where thousands of Catholics joined Cardinal-designate Timothy M. Dolan (Archbishop of New York and President, United States Conference of Catholic Bishops) to pray for the end to abortion and a renewed focus on a culture of life.

After Mass, students joined Catholics from all over the country at the site of the National Pro-Life Rally and listened to speakers and testimonies on the importance of the dignity of the human life and defending those with no voice.  Students marched approximately two hours from “the Mall” to the Supreme Court building joining other Catholics as witnesses to life.

Holy Name Junior Caitlyn Welsh said this about the experience “It was amazing to see so many people in Washington willing to do God’s will and defend life.  It is so important for all of us young and old to speak for the unborn and promote the fact that all life is worth defending.”
