Girls basketball: Holy Name clinches NCL White Division crown

 , February 10, 2012 9:25 a.m.

Holy Name (13-6, 9-0 North Coast League) clinched the NCL White Division crown despite losing sophomore Kim Cook early in the season to a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

"Shannon Day and Rachel Kucharczyk are scoring 6.5 points a game and have picked up the scoring in place of Cook," Holy Name coach Kim Jones said. "Erica Davis has picked up the rebounding with 5.6 boards a game.

"Rachel's a sophomore and Erica's a freshman and that will only help us next year after Day and Taylor Krusinski graduate."

Krusinski, a Mercyhurst recruit, is averaging 19.2 points and six rebounds per game and they'll need her to step up even more if the third-seeded Green Wave is to survive the Division II sectional/district tournament at Elyria, where Keystone and Rocky River are the top two seeds.

"Our division in the NCL is pretty competitive," Jones said. "Teams come to play, and play hard every night."
