Holy Name baseball team continues strong season

With just about half of the regular season completed, the Holy Name baseball team is well ahead of the .500 mark, checking in so far with a season record of 10-4.

Holy Name picked up its tenth win on Monday, defeating Warren JFK by a score of 5-2. The Green Wave scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning and added two more runs in the fifth inning.

Kyle Rees was the winning pitcher, giving up only three hits and striking out three. His teammate, Alex Kurowski, had two hits in two at-bats, including a triple.

Also for Holy Name, Gordy Egan had two hits, and Tyler Sullivan was one for two, with an RBI.
Other recent victories for Holy Name include a two-game sweep of Villa Angela St. Joseph last week. The Green Wave defeated the Vikings by scores of 10-0 and 3-1.

The 10-0 game, played April 17, was abbreviated to five innings because of the run rule. The winning pitcher was Joe Duff, who gave up only three hits.

At the plate for Holy Name, Matteo Beechuk had two hits in three at-bats, and had a run batted in.
In the 3-1 contest, played April 16, Rees was the winning pitcher. He scattered only four hits in seven innings of work. Rees struck out 13 batters and didn’t surrender any walks. At the plate, Rees had one hit in three at – bats, and he had an RBI and a stolen base.

However, later last week, Holy Name dropped a contest against Mentor Lake Catholic, losing by a score of 12-4. Steve Boden was the losing pitcher, putting his season record at 1-3.

On Thursday, Holy Name is scheduled to play a 4:30 p.m. game at Normandy.
