Roll on Green Wave After 9 Year Drought, Green Wave Rises Up to Overwhelm Bruins
Last Friday night, the Holy Name varsity football squad did what they hadn't done in nine years. They beat their number one rival, the Padua Bruins, 14-7, and punctuated the victory by dousing second year Coach Pinzone with a Green Wave of Gatorade. With the win, Holy Name endeavors to usher in a new era for Green Wave football marked by increased competitiveness and a few more notches in the win column. Congratulations to all the players and coaches who worked so hard to turn things around, and don't forget to show your support for the team by attending our F.A.N. (Forever a Namer) event before this week's game against St. Peter Chanel (see below). The tide is rising, so break out the face paint and pom poms, and roll on Green Wave! Holy Name Senior Alan Burke named National Merit Semi-Finalist in National Merit
Scholarship Competition
Last
October, about 1.5 million juniors took the 2010 Preliminary SAT/National Merit
Scholarship Qualifying Test which served as an initial screen of program
entrants. The nationwide pool of Semi-Finalists (16,000 total), which
represents less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors, includes the
highest scoring entrants in each state.
We congratulate Alan for his exceptional academic achievements and wish him luck
as he competes to become a National Merit Finalist and scholarship winner.
Alan and his parents Sheila & Shane Burke are from Seven Hills, Ohio. His two
sisters are also HN graduates and now attend Baldwin Wallace & Syracuse
University respectively.
Alan received a 34
on his ACT and a perfect 800 on the SAT II Chemistry exam. Alan participates in
cross country, lacrosse, ski club and student senate. He is very interested in
science and chemistry for his education and future career.
